Early registration for dog and cat breeders now available online 4 December 2017

Breeder registration is just one of the state’s new dog and cat management laws, including tougher fines for dog attacks, compulsory microchipping and mandatory desexing for all dogs and cats born after 1 July 2018 (subject to exemption). The new breeder registration requirement applies to anyone who breeds a dog or cat, not just pedigree breeds.

Thinking of going boating or for a drive around Lake Bonney this weekend? Please note that access to the Sue Fieldhouse Boat ramp, Queen Elizabeth and Dean Drive will be restricted on Saturday 10am-4pm and on Sunday from 6am – 3:30pm due to road closures in place for the Murray Man Triathlon. Council is seeking feedback for potential sites in Barmera for an Off Leash Dog Park. Two sites have been identified through internal consultation with the Barmera Town Beautification Committee and have been recommended for consideration. • Bruce Oval (parallel with Scott Ave) and • Johnny Baynes Park, Amy Street, Barmera. These have been identified as locations that provide accessibility, car parking, amenities and a suitable dimension for the park. The feedback forms must be returned prior to Friday 13 October 2017

Funding success for the proposed Berri Riverfront Wharf project 17 October 2017

The Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, Hon Stephen Mullighan MP recently announced that the Berri Barmera Council’s proposed Berri Riverfront Wharf has been successful in securing nearly $600,000 in funding for the $1.199M project.

Road Works - 5 July 2017 Crawford Terrace 3 July 2017

Stormwater works will be commencing on Crawford Terrace, Berri on Wednesday 5th July 2017. The project is estimated to take approximately four working days to complete. During this time there will be minor disruptions to those who travel up Crawford Terrace to Bookpurnong round about. Traffic wishing to exit Berri via Crawford Terrace, will need to find an alternate route (ie via Vaughan Tce). Hard Waste Collection 2017 20 April 2017

The Berri Barmera Council is partnering with Diabetes SA for its FINAL collection in the area for donations and are asking you to get behind them with the “Blue Bag” collection on 26 and 27 April. Other hard waste collection from residential properties in Berri, Barmera, Cobdogla, Glossop, Loveday and Monash will be undertaken in May. To ensure you understand what is required, please read through the attached brochure. Out of town residents have been given the opportunity to take part, by being able to take one free 6x4 trailer load (approx. 2 cubic metres) of items to the Transpacific Waste Transfer station, Berri, from Saturday 29th April until Sunday 14th May. The items in this load can be a combination of the items listed on the brochure.

The Riverland will be playing host to this year’s SA Accredited Visitor Information Centre State Conference, which will for the first time ever include the SA Regional Tourism Summit from May 16-18. Open Space Funding Application for Section of Riverview Drive 17 October 2017

Council has recently lodged an application for funding from the Department of Planning Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) for a redevelopment of area around the Vietnam War Memorial and Visitor Information Centre at Berri. Successful projects will have funding announced in the middle of this year. Should the project proceed it will see Riverview Drive intersection with Vaughan Terrace narrowed and the public areas on either side of the road widened for both everyday use and events. In particular the Vietnam War Memorial is located very close to the kerbs of Vaughan Terrace and Riverview Drive. In consultation with Riverland Vietnam Veterans a design has been developed creating significantly more space around the Memorial for events, quiet contemplation and paying respect.

HEAL (Healthy Eating Activity & Lifestyle) 30 January 2017

RDGP have been funded by the Country SA PHN to facilitate the HEAL program in the Riverland. HEAL is a lifestyle modification program that supports participants to develop lifelong healthy eating and physical activity behaviours. The program is specifically designed as a prevention program for people who are at risk of developing cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. It is also suitable for people seeking to manage their weight, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and metabolic conditions.

Storm Clean up 11 November 2016

Please note that teams are working throughout our district to remove fallen trees from roads, however we need to advise that most will be just cut and moved to the side of the road until we can return to pick up over the next three days. We are keen to hear from you, on 8582 1922, if there are any other trees fallen that are blocking public access. Note that when you come across a fallen tree that has already been cut, then this has already been registered with Council for future pick up.. Please take care when travelling around by car (or foot) over the next few days, and resist parking under trees where ever possible.

Temporary Road Closures 16 September 2016

The following access roads to Katarapko National Park have been closed to the public due to recent heavy rains. Draper Road, Berri will be closed at the old Rodeo Grounds and also Eckert's Road, Winkie, from Lower Winkie Road. It is anticipated that the roads will re-open early next week.

Dementia Awareness Month 1 September 2016

September is Dementia Awareness Month and Council has embarked on a project focusing on fostering a Dementia Friendly Community. Dementia is quickly emerging as one of the most critical global public health challenges and it is no different in our district with an aging population becoming a greater percentage of our demographic. Currently no cure for Dementia and with the population trend of people living longer, we will likely see more people living in the community with this illness being cared for at home by family and carers. .
