Fires In An Incinerator For The Purpose Of Disposing Of Refuse
Burning garden refuse or other refuse in an incinerator is subject to the following conditions.
Pursuant to the Country Fires Act:
- Totally prohibited on a TOTAL FIRE BAN day ($8,000 fine)
- During the Fire Danger Season (1 December to 30 April), all of the following conditions apply- the fire is contained within a properly constructed incinerator of masonry construction, able to contain fire/sparks on all sides and having a capacity of less than 0.25 cubic metres
- Fire to be attended at all times until completely extinguished
- A four metre clearance from flammable material is maintained both around and above the incinerator
- An adequate supply of water adequate to extinguish the fire is at hand ($4,000 Fines Apply)
Pursuant to the Environmental Protection Act:
- Only dry paper, dry cardboard, dry wood or dried garden prunings can be burnt
- Only between the hours of 10am and 3pm, Monday to Saturday
- Burning is not permitted on Sundays
- Burning timber treated with any chemical preservatives (permapine) is not permitted ($500 Fines Apply)
